Greeting to one and all now the reason you’re reading this is because you want to know my top comic’s of 2011 now this is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time and has taken me a long time to write as I’ve put a lot of time and effort into this particular blog since a lot as happened in 2011 in the comic book world and no matter what anyone says DC have been bold with Blackest Night and Flashpoint.
In the same sense Marvel have also been bold too with the Death of Johnny Storm, The Death of Ultimate Peter Parker, Doctor Doom joining the Fantastic Four and dividing the X-men and Feat Itself
This blog though will only be a summary of each story as my other blogs will be about each comic story, art work and so on so don’t fret and look forward to the next upcoming blogs.
5. Fear Itself
The Serpent, the self-proclaimed True All Father of Asgard, awakens from his dark prison beneath the ocean, set free by his First Worthy Skadi. All-Father. As he begins to spread fear throughout Earth, the Asgardians go back to Asgard leaving the heroes of Earth to fend for themselves, while the fear generated by the general human populace helps to power the serpent. Many major characters were featured, such as the X-Men, the Avengers, and even Spider-Man.
One of the main villains is Sinthea Shmidt, daughter of the Red Skull, but The Serpent is the primary villain of this Marvel comics event. Also, the Serpent gives to other super-powered people Hulk, Juggernaut, Attuma, Absorbing Man, Titania, Thing and Grey Gargoyle seven special hammers which turns them into The Worthy, who helps him to spread chaos along the Earth.
4. Flashpoint
Flashpoint was a massive event which DC said would change the whole DC universe which it has as it led to the New 52 DC announced that they would reboot a lot of their hero’s back to issue 1.
Flashpoint is an event focusing on Barry Allen and the rest of the Flash Family's efforts to fix the fissures in time, made by unknown forces. The event’s in this story brings an end to the "old" DC Universe timeline. The events of this issue directly lead into DC Comic's New 52 relaunch of their entire line of books.
3. Batman Incorporated
Following the events of Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne and Bruce Wayne: The Road Home, Bruce finally confronted the one major truth about himself: that despite all of his lone work and brooding personality, he was never alone. With that revelation, he decided to expand his reach. As Bruce Wayne, he came out and revealed he was the beneficiary behind Batman's devices and that, from that day forward, Batman's reach would go worldwide as Batman Incorporated.
With Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne still functioning as Gotham's Batman and Robin, with Bruce's blessings, Bruce began a worldwide recruitment drive, attempting to unite other like-minded heroes under his brand.
2. Wolverine and the X-Men/ Uncanny X-men
In the Schism summer event, the x-men was split into two factions, one led by Wolverine, following in the steps of Charles Xavier which leads Wolverine to become the headmaster (yes that’s true Wolverine is a headmaster) of Jean Grey’s Institute for Higher Learning with the Hellfire Club which is reformed by a gang of homicidal children (you read that right homicidal children) take on Wolverine and his school.
Cyclops takes on Magneto’s stance and stay at utopia and has managed to created the most powerful X-Men team ever gathered and called them the X-Tinction Team. Who soon find out that Mr Sinister is alive and kicking.
1. The New 52
The New 52 is an event marking the publication of 52 new comic series and the release of the first issues of the new series. In September 2011, DC Comics relaunched their comic lines, publishing new #1 issues for selected series, discontinuing some series, and introducing yet other series. The event receives its name from a previous DC event titled 52 in which DC Comics pushed all their comic series's continuities forward one year and published the 52 Vol 1 comic weekly for one year to explain the interim happenings in the DC universe.
The big improvement thought is with a certain rubbish hero who we all make fun of well not anymore because he’s a complete badass that’s right Aquaman is a badass now. He's also making a very strong case for being a favourite member of the DCU's "Big 7." Before the new 52 I would never have picked up one of his comics but now after having read the 1st issue I will be looking to pick up a lot more of his stories.
I hope you have enjoyed this and I hope it makes you pick up a copy or two but there are loads more out there that I will mention later on In my blogs after I have talked more about these five but until then
Peace and Love
